Free Virus Protection Software That Actually Works

avast Free Virus Protection Software That Actually Works

You ever download some free virus protection software and find that it’s worth every penny you paid? In other words, it’s worth exactly zero dollars and zero cents.

Well when that happens, you can at least look on the bright side: At least you didn’t get ripped off, right? You got exactly what you paid for, no more, no less.

Well yeah, but that’s cold comfort when you’ve got a dozen viruses eating up your RAM and messing with your files. If you download a free virus scanner, you’re actually going to want more than what you paid for!

Still, there are literally dozens and dozens, maybe hundreds, of free virus scanners out there, and it’s not always easy to boil it down to just good ones.

So you can either go ahead and pay full price for a virus scanner (and still possibly find that it doesn’t do a thing for you), or you can read this list of…

Good, Free Virus Protection Software… That Actually Works!

Avira AntiVir

We’re going to go ahead start this list out with one of our favourites. In fact, if you give AntiVir a try and find that it works, you might not want to even bother reading the rest of this list. Here’s why Avira is maybe the best when it comes to free virus protection; It’s easy to use. It simply takes one installation, and that’s that. It has a huge database of known viruses. It gets updated at least once a day, ensuring that it never gets caught unaware by new viruses. It’s simply way better than anybody expects from a free antivirus program.

AVGFree

AVGFree is a potent little system, but many users complain that it can be a little tricky to use. For example, while it gets great updates on a regular basis, every now and then, it will automatically download an update and then make you restart your computer to reinstall the whole thing. Make no mistake, it’s a great little program, but this might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for some.

Avast! Home Edition

Avast.com really likes to push their packages for businesses and offices, but make no mistake, Avast! Home Edition, which is free, will more than get the job done for you. While not as slick as Avira, it offers a more complete approach, scanning your machine in real time to find and kill viruses, and without eating up too much of your computer’s RAM.
