Free flights going with Palm Pre

If you fancy treating yourself to a new SmartPhone and the Palm Pre has caught your attention then why not buy one before the end of January and bag yourself free flights as part of the bargain.

Carphone Warehouse is offering two free return airline tickets to anyone who buys the SmartPhone before 31st January in an attempt to boost sales which are apparently falling short of expectations.

Part of the problem is surely the iPhone. It’s always the iPhone isn’t it? When the Palm Pre first came on the scene in the US in June and in the UK in October it was being hailed as yet another iPhone killer but once again it has not succeeded in doing what others before it have tried and failed to do, compete with Apple’s popular all singing all dancing SmartPhone.

O2, who have an exclusive deal to sell the Palm Pre in the UK, recently lost their exclusive hold on the iPhone in the UK leaving the door open for others to take it on.

Mobile Phone Company Orange started selling the iPhone in November, the iPhone is also now being sold by Tesco and soon Vodafone will join in the fun by offering the iPhone to their customers from the middle of next month.

O2 is still selling the iPhone, but with several other carriers selling it too they are competing for sales.

Now though, instead of going for the iPhone you can have the Palm Pre and two free airline tickets to one of 15 European destinations thrown in for good measure by signing up for a contract with O2 via Carphone Warehouse.

Apparently there are heaps of unsold Palm Pre phones just sitting there doing nothing so perhaps the added enticement of a free flight might lure more buyers to the Palm Pre.

Personally, I don’t think it will do much, these days you can find cheap enough flights anywhere which is obviously why they can do it, it’s the accommodation when you get wherever you’re going that’s going to hurt your wallet.

So, although the Palm Pre is an excellent SmartPhone by any standards, it is not the one that is going to push the iPhone off its superior perch any time soon.

I also can’t see it attracting many extra sales just because of a free flight as an added incentive but if you happen to live in the UK, are planning a new phone and a trip abroad then it might be worth checking out the deal.
