Firefox 2.0 Final Coming Tuesday

Get FirefoxMozilla Corporation will launch the final of its Firefox 2.0 browser Tuesday, October 24, 2006 the company said this morning.

The long-tested Firefox 2.0 which updated to Release Candidate 3 (RC3) last Tuesday, arrives hard on the heels of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP.

Firefox 2.0 features anti-phishing alerts, session restore, spell checking, suggested searches, and several other enhancement and additions to version 1.5, the last major update to the open-source browser.

According to the most recent statistics from Web metric firm Net Applications, Mozilla browsers accounted for 12.5 percent of the surfing market in September.

“2.0 has about a dozen major improvements across the board,” said Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla’s director of engineering. “Our goal is always to get you to the important part, the content in the middle of the frame, as quickly as possible.”

“Users who have already downloaded and installed Firefox 2.0 RC3 will not need to re-download the browser”, added Schroepfer, “because the RC3 code is identical to what Mozilla is dubbing the final”.

    Hi TechZ.

Technically it was leaked or released last week with Release Candidate 3 (RC3) last Tuesday.

The only thing different about the files for the official 2.0 release is it’s no longer called RC3 but 2.0.

I was hoping you might know what can be done to getting the email icon back? I cant seem to find it anywhere, looked in help files to no avail… before I updated last night the icon was right next to the home button, now when I look in the customize area for the tool bars, there is no email icon to choose??? Any ideas?

    Hi Lisa.

I have no idea about the email button. I’ll look into it and if I find a solution, I’ll comment again.

If you find the answer, please let me know.

They took away my little tab-closing button on the far right… and made all the buttons that ugly shaded faux-3D that honestly will just never look good on a button so I don’t know why they even try…

Any chance you know of an option for a classic view?

    Hey Luke,

You might want to check the themes site for Firefox.

I’m already looking around and if I find a classic theme, I’ll let you know and please do the same for me.
