Finding the Best Buy Spam Filter Software

Finding the best buy spam filter software doesn’t simply mean going for the lowest price. Best buy simply means the most quality you can get for your dollar, so best buy, in this case, would mean the most powerful antispam software in, say, the twenty to thirty dollar range.

So what exactly do you want from your antispam software before you can safely say that it’s worth the money you spend on it? Well, first of all, you of course want it to be effective. Whether it’s fifty bucks or it’s free, if it doesn’t actually work, then it’s not a deal at all, but just another useless file to clutter up your hard drive (and isn’t that what we fight spam to get rid of?).

Second, you want it to be updated now and then. The way spam filtering works is primarily based around the idea of tracking known sources of spam and keeping them from contacting you. So this is accomplished by keeping a big database of all these email addresses and proxies known to send out spam, and of course, that database has to be updated on a pretty constant basis.

And, of course, it should be easy to use.

On the price, you’ve got some great programs on both ends. McAfee is maybe the best all around computer security software available, fighting viruses, spam, adware, malware, Trojans, and worms, but at fifty bucks for the full package, it’s not really what you could call Best Buy.

On the lower end of the spectrum, you have eXpurgate, which is free, but tends to eat up quite a bit of CPU and memory.

So what you have in the best buy range is SpamBully. It’s easy to use, has an allow/block list, uses the Baynesian spam filter, and most importantly, it actually bullies spammers, just like the name says. You can increase their costs, send the spam directly back to the email address of origin, report them to their servers and the FTC, and forward a password to new senders, making them type it in before emailing you further, ensuring that bots will not get through.

SpamBully sets itself up by working with your feedback for a few days, so rather than complex configuration settings, the program just observes which emails you’re deleting, which ones you’re reading, and so on, to ensure that benevolent bots (such as a message board notification system) can still get through. There are some other best buy spamblockers out there you might like, but SpamBully is probably one of the best.
