Domo , Drag Drop Tap Concept Digital Camera

Domo is a concept digital camera with a bit of a difference. It isn’t complicated looking like many other digital cameras for a start, it has no bulky buttons or other pointy parts protruding from it.

All you have to do is navigate your way around the photos and the menus using a simple touch screen. The screen and the shutter are nicely recessed and there isn’t even a physical button on the shutter itself as that is touch activated too. Now that’s cool.

I must admit it does seem that it would be easier and faster to just drag your photo with your finger to move your pics around and yes it would be mighty convenient to simply tap your chosen pic if you want to bring it to the forefront to view it properly, I just wonder if any thought has been given to preventing grubby finger prints from dirtying up the screen.

The Domo is certainly smooth looking though and that’s a definite plus, literally, it is very streamlined and curvy with no sharp edges and so it has a kind of simplistic almost child like appeal. Maybe that’s why the grubby finger prints came to mind.

I particularly like the fact that it is slender and small enough to glide gracefully into your pocket, even your shirt pocket if you want, and as there are no chunky bits, carrying it around isn’t going to prove too much of a problem no matter where you go.

The question is will it take off?

Who knows! On the one hand the Domo could prove to be a winner simply because it is so uncluttered with few moving parts to go wrong. On the other hand dedicated digital cameras are not quite the novelty they used to be.

These days we can have digital cameras integrated into our mobiles, some with as much as 8 mega pixels which is even more than many digital cameras on the market today. The convenience of having a camera on your phone means you don’t have to carry two gadgets around plus with your phone you can instantly and wirelessly send your pics to your mates or your mother or even upload them on the web.

However, digital cameras are still popular and they do have their place and maybe there’ll be room for the Domo too. Even if it does look remarkably similar in size to a standard deck of cards, we’ll just have to wait and see if it comes up trumps or not. I suppose if it ever finds its way to market, it is the sales figures that will ultimately decide.

Thanks! I didn’t have any luck digging it up… but at least I know that it’s in the very conceptual phase. Maybe an innovator like Olympus will pick up on the idea. It’s pretty cool.

This would be cool if Apple (dragging of this reminds them) buys the idea and integrate this with its cool cam photo taking utility(can not remember its name but have a big list of ready effects)
