Demand Increases For Mobile Broadband Connection But Are Some ISPs Listening?

he demand for Mobile broadband connection is growing much faster than the demand for home connections and yet some Internet Service Providers in the UK like TalkTalk and Sky are being slow to catch on according to Top Ten Broadband.

If we look at the industry estimate figures, which are actually quite staggering, ISPs who don’t offer a mobile broadband connection service are losing out on millions of pounds of potential revenue and let’s face it, who can afford to do that these days?

Around 200,000 mobile broadband connections are being set up each month so the prediction is that somewhere in the region of £36 million is there for the taking by ISPs who offer a mobile broadband connection service.

To get an idea of the growth of mobile broadband connections we can compare the sales figures through Top Ten Broadband 3 months ago with those of last month.

In October 2008 mobile broadband connections accounted for 32% of sales through the Top Ten Broadband site and yet last month this had risen to 50%. That represents a whopping 18% rise in as little as 12 weeks or an average increase of around 9% a month.

By comparison, back in January 2008 sales of mobile broadband through Top Ten Broadband represented only 10% of total sales.

ISPs like TalkTalk and Sky really must look into ways of offering mobile broadband connections either as a standalone product or as part of a larger bundle because failure to do so amounts to “financial suicide” according to Jessica McArdle.

In the current economic climate, no one can afford to be complacent, not even ISPs. It just goes to show how quickly things change. It doesn’t seem too long ago that most of us relied on dialups for our internet connection and yet that seems unthinkable now.

These days we not only want faster and faster broadband at home, we are demanding broadband through our mobiles too. ISPs really need to keep up with the times because who knows what’s coming next.
