Dells Upgrades The XPS 13 Ultrabook

The XPS 13 may not be that new, but this version of the cool looking ultrabook has been upgraded. It now has the latest third generation of Intel Core processors, making the machine much faster and therefore it able to support faster RAM too, which can make a big difference when it comes to performance. Within the range there now four choices of ultrabook, two sporting the Intel Core i5-3317U and two with the higher end Intel Core i7-3517U processors, the difference is performance between each version is equally matched by the difference in pricing. The entry level is around the $1,000 mark and the high end level peaks at around $1,500.

The basic specs however are more or less the same across the board with the XPS 13 coming with a nice size 13.3 inch screen with a HD 720p display offering a 1366 × 768 of pixel resolutions and a built in 1.3 mega pixel web camera with dual array digital microphones. It will be running the latest Windows 8 64 bit operating system and is powered by the latest 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3317U with a 3 MB Cache and clock speed up to 2.6 GHz. There is support for the Intel QS67 Chipset and the graphics will be provided by the highly capable Intel HD 4000 Video Card.

Memory is 4 GB of DDR3L 1600 and there is an up to 128 GB solid state drive (SSD) available for storage purposes. As for networking Dell have gone for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 802.11 a/g/n wireless LAN with Intel Smart Connect Technology and the Bluetooth 3.0. Other features include a single fast connecting USB 3.0 port, a standard USB 2.0 port with PowerShare, mini DisplayPort and a High Definition Audio + Waves MaxxAudio system.

This is an ultrabook and therefore size matters, the XPS 13 measures up at 0.24 inches to 0.71 inches (H) (6mm to 18mm) x 12.4 inches (W) (316 mm) 8.1 inches (D) (205 mm) and it weighs in at just 2.99 pounds (1.36 kg) that is with the 47WHr 6-Cell Li-Polymer battery pack installed that Dell say will be good for up to 8 hours and 53 minutes of offline power. The starting price for this smart looking XPS 13 ultrabook from Dell is around the $1,000 mark.
