Ok so the Dell Latitude 2100 Netbook may be ideal for students and school kids but that doesn’t mean the rest of us won’t be interested or can’t use it, as a Netbook it is actually suitable for most and available for everyone.
So what has the Dell Latitude 2100 Netbook got going for it?

Considering the amount of Netbooks we have to choose from these days, the Latitude 2100 doesn’t have much that you can’t find in other Netbooks, apart from the touch screen which is pretty cool.
It is a “ruggedized” Netbook which doesn’t mean the same as rugged so although it can withstand a little bit of a bashing it doesn’t have motion sensing technology to shut off the hard drive so you can’t go throwing it about too much.
It also comes with a bit more weight because of the materials used to make the tougher casing (kids need that) but not enough to make too much of difference unless you really want ultra light.
You can choose from a variety of different specs but in general as Netbooks go the specs are pretty standard. For example, there’s the 10.1 inch display screen with a resolution of 1024 x 576 which is not that great, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB RAM but up to 2 GB is available, and Wi-Fi along with other options such as a webcam, Bluetooth and upgrading to 802.11n Wi-Fi.
You can choose whether you want Windows XP, Windows Vista or Linux Ubuntu which is handy, and guess which one is the cheapest? The Ubuntu of course!
It does have a good sized keyboard which sure beats having to use a one finger prodding method to type but it doesn’t have a back light however unless you want to work in the dark that’s not too much of a disadvantage.
Other features include an array of ports such as three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, D-Sub Port and SD Card Slot. An interesting feature is the indicator light which will show when Wireless is on. Apparently this is useful in the classroom so that the teacher can see if the student is connected and the 2100 may in the future have a flashing light to indicate if the student is accessing the Internet.
The Dell Latitude 2100 Netbook is available now and prices start at £298 with the Ubuntu Linux operating system.
