There’s been a lot of talk recently about the new Dell netbook we knew was on the way, but nobody knew much detail for sure.  Announced a few days ago , Dell put at least some of the speculation to an end with it’s 12.1 inch screen Mini (which really is stretching the word a little, although it is very light and skinny).

The new machine is thin (less than an inch thick) and light (only 1.23 kg), as we expect from a notebook, and boasts 1GB of Ram, and hard drive options of 40, 60 and 80 GB.  You also can get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Officially named the Dell Inspiron Mini 12, the notebook comes with a useful 3 USB ports, multicard reader, Ethernet, VGA-Out and Windows Vista Home Basic as standard, and will be sure to arouse some interest in the Dell-friendly market.

Well that’s the good news.  The bad news is, you’ll have to go to Japan to get one.  It won’t be available in the Uk until mid-November, where it will retail via Dell stores.  Plus, support for Windows XP and Ubuntu won’t be available until “later this year”.  So you’ll just have to wait for this if you’re interested (or ask Father Christmas to bring you one – he flies over Japan too, doesn’t he?), because the price isn’t even public yet – we’re guessing at around £350.

The Mini 12 notebook is aimed (according to Dell) at “teens, tweens, travellers and social networkers to surf the web, chat with friends, blog, stream content, upload photos or enjoy online videos, music and games”, but we can see all kinds of uses for a little sexy number like this for the wider population looking for a smaller laptop.
