I refuse to buy a netbook because I like the functionality, performance, and adequate screen size of a 16" or 17" laptop. Sure, a laptop is bit heavier to carry around but I'm way more productive using a laptop. A netbook may be OK for just surfing and emailing but the smaller screen size sucks.

Everyone knows screen size is a trade-off. What netbooks lack in screen size (and, in many cases, keyboard size), they gain in portability, especially in weight.

Important to note here that this trade-off can be mitigated somewhat by opting for an ultra-thin full-size laptop like a MacBook Air, but that itself comes with a trade-off in affordability.
