Could Tesco be selling Apple’s iPhone before Christmas?

Could Tesco be selling Apple’s iPhone before Christmas?Tesco Mobile has said in a surprise announcement, that they will have the Apple iPhone on sale “shortly”.

“Tesco Mobile through its joint venture partnership with O2 is pleased to announce that it will shortly introduce iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in Tesco Phone Shops and online through Tesco Direct in the UK” the brief statement read.

Does this mean that we can add an iPhone from Tesco to our Christmas shopping list?

“We would love to get it in our stores before Christmas and would love to bring a bit of Tesco value to the iPhone and offer something very different to what is out there” said a Tesco Mobile spokeswoman.

If they’re offering something “very different” to what is out there, does this mean a cheaper phone?

Everyone is now talking about a possible price war surrounding the prestigious and much sought after iPhone but whether that is just wishful thinking or not remains to be seen.

For the past couple of years 02 have had the exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in the UK but that contract lapsed last month leaving others free to join in the fun.

Orange starting selling the iPhone almost immediately however, Orange retained a price structure similar to 02.

What we don’t know yet is whether Tesco Mobile, will follow a similar path and offer comparable pricing.

Still, the news that Tesco is about to take on the phone and compete for customers is sure to put the proverbial cat among the pigeons as they say.

Vodafone, T Mobile and 3 are all also keen to get in on the act with Vodafone leading that particular trio in the race to be first, however, Vodafone won’t be able to start selling the iPhone until after Christmas.

This means that if Tesco get it on the shelves before Christmas they will be able to cash in on the highly lucrative holiday sales.

Any customers interested in purchasing an iPhone through Tesco can register their interest on Tesco Mobile website.

Tesco mobile claim they offer “value, simplicity and choice” with “award winning, simple, great value pay as you go and pay monthly tariffs” and earlier this year was voted number one mobile network for customer satisfaction by Which Magazine.

You can bet that other phone companies and customers alike will be keeping a close eye on Tesco over the next few weeks.

I mean it makes sense doesn’t it, if you can find a way to hack into something that’s meant to be secure, chances are you’re going to be pretty good at making something secure. Well now Tisco, the young unemployed 21 year old who wrote the Ikee worm for the Apple iPhone, has managed to worm his way into a job. Guess what as? Not surprisingly he’s been hired as an iPhone developer, he’ll basically be writing software applications for the iPhone for Australian firm Mogeneration.
