BDS Cool gadget checks computer users stress levels and mood

How do you know if you’re getting too stressed and need to take some time away from the computer or whatever other gadget you’re working on?

I suppose you could rely on your own subjective opinion as to whether you need a break or not but that’s not the most reliable method and too many of us push it too far.

No, what would be great is a specially designed gadget that will give us all the scientific info we need to make the decision to take a break or not and now Israeli company IDesia Ltd have come up with just that.

IDesia are a biometrics company and they were showing off their BioDynamic Signature (BDS) Technology at the Computex trade fair in Taipai, which is Asia’s biggest trade fair.

The BDS is a personal biometric authentication technology that is able to capture electro physiological signals that are unique in each of us.

It will check your stress levels and your mood basically by analysing your own individual heartbeat right down to the tiniest detail.

All you have to do is grasp two sensors which look a bit like a computer mouse, and these sensors will record the data and the software will do the rest.

First though you pre-record all sorts of information like your age, sex and so on and then the BDS will be able to combine your heart rate info with that data to give you your own personal printout and feedback.

“It’s like fingerprints. Everyone’s is different,” said David Chang, a vice president with the company, at Computex Taipei.

Some members of the public tried out the device at the trade fair and the feedback was pretty positive.

“Understanding your mood at the start of the day is especially critical,” a 60-year-old man told AFP after trying out the technology.

“It’s just like turning on a television to watch a weather forecast report so you can prepare better for work each day” he told AFP.

It’s not just the computer that it will work on, apparently the BDS can be linked to other gadgets too like mobile phones and gamepads.

We don’t know yet what this thing is likely to cost but the company reckon it will be available in the fourth quarter of the year.
