You know I want one of these, I mean wow! Who on earth in their right mind wouldn’t want a road legal quad bike that looked like this ? This is one cool dude machine that totally rocks.
The first thing that grabs you is the overall look of it as it’s all upfront and in your face. Ok if you have a bit of an imagination you might see it as some sort of exotic giant insect that you just know has a powerful sting in its tail. It has an almost menacing ‘don’t mess with me’ kind of stance. I like that. Kind of appeals to the male ego a bit.
But at the same time it is soft on the eye and carries an air of calm superiority and quiet sophistication along with a stylish elegance. No you definitely wouldn’t be worried about being seen on it.
Personally I can almost feel the wind on my face as I imagine myself buzzing my way through the traffic to freedom. It shouts freedom. Yes, make no mistake, this thing has presence.
Quad bikes are usually designed to travel comfortably over all kinds of terrain, but this is an urban quad and as such has been designed with the city in mind. Even if you wanted to take it off road, which I’m sure you wouldn’t, the low front end design of the bike wouldn’t allow it.
Check out the funky electronic digital display, the design of the lights, the look of the wheels, bumpers, protection guards, handlebars, it’s obvious that considerable thought has gone into making it as aesthetically pleasing as possible without compromising the ergonomics. The dual exhaust nicely completes the whole outfit.
Practical issues haven’t been ignored either, the side panel can be removed for easy maintenance, the location of the petrol cap for easy refuelling, the series of inlet slits to cool the radiator and the rear side grips for a passenger.
This ‘Urban Quad’ or ‘Urban Cuad’ as you would say in Spanish, is the design of Argentinean industrial designer Gabriel Contino.
Contino is currently completing a degree in Industrial Design at Buenos Aires University and his focus is on “making people’s everyday life easier through product design”.
Having one of these would certainly make my life easier and if it ever finds its way to market, you can get behind me in the queue.
