As most already know George Hotz also known as “GeoHot” unlocked the Apple iPhone with a hardware and software hack.
He posted about it on his blog complete with step by step instructions and links to his custom software and needed hardware as well.
The story picked up so much buzz, he was interviewed by CNBC’s Erin Burnett:
He unlocked two iPhones, one for him to keep and one to sell on eBay dubbed as the World’s Second Unlocked iPhone.
In the end, the eBay auction got a ton of fake bids which was expected and made it impossible to sell but have no fear for the 17 year old hacker boy… there is a silver lining…
Terry Daidone, the co-founder of Certicell contacted George and offered to make him a trade for the iPhone. The trade was for a Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB Apple iPhones.
Now that things are starting to calm down a little, GeoHot is heading to his first year at college.
As an added bonus to this cool story, Google offered him a summer internship for his next summer break.
