Here we go again you just know it’s going to happen, as soon as any new technology hits the market somebody somewhere pops up claiming it’s theirs and that it has been stolen.
Remember the other day it came out that Fujitsu that might take Apple on in the courts as they claim the name iPad was a name they gave to one of their products 8 years ago?
Well now a Chinese company has accused Apple of stealing the whole design of their tablet.
Shenzhen Great Loong Brother Company reckons that the Apple iPad is exactly like their P88 tablet which they showed off last year at the Internationale Funkausstellung consumer electronics fair in Berlin and which has been on the market in China for the past six months.
Presumably this means that Apple has had ample time to check it out and copy it for their iPad. That would be scandalous wouldn’t it?
So let’s take a look and see just how alike the P88 and the iPad are. Well I suppose at first glance they both look remarkably like tablets, incredible that isn’t it?
Really though that’s about it in a nutshell, No joke! The two tablets have different operating systems, chips, screen sizes, weight, dimensions, memory, features, battery life and even price.
However the Chinese based Shenzhen Great Loong Brother doesn’t agree and are seriously upset about the similarities.
“We don’t understand. Why did they make the same thing as us?” said Huang Xiaofang, an executive at the Company.
Hey wait a minute, isn’t China the country where you can find just about any cheap imitation product or pirated copy?
Wu Xiaolong, the Chief Executive Officer of Shenzhen Great Loong Brother is absolutely furious and says he’ll take legal action against Apple if they try to sell the iPad in China.
“I was very angry and flabbergasted when I saw the news of the iPad presentation two days ago,” Wu told Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
“We won’t have any choice but to report them”.
“It is certainly our design that they’ve stolen because we presented our P88 to everyone six months ago at the IFA” said Wu.
I don’t know what they are thinking because saying the two tablets are identical is like saying a laptop and a netbook are clones of each other. They just ain’t.
Maybe it’s a publicity stunt or something who knows.
