Gateway launched the LT4004U netbook

It seems strange to still think of Gateway as a US based computer manufacturer, but here they are still going all bit it as part of Acer these days. However, this new lease of life gives Gateway an advantage especially when it comes to the very competitive netbook market.

Here we are looking at the LT4004U netbook from the California based Gateway Computers Co, it is the Acer Aspire One D270 Cedar Trail netbook but it comes with all the Gateway branding. The price is more or less the same too, but for US consumers the Gateway LT4004U netbook is effectively an American brand and therefore it stands to reason it is an American netbook.

The new Gateway LT4004U features the standard netbook 10.1 inch LED backlit display with a 1024 x 600 of pixel resolutions and it has a handy 0.3 mega pixel web camera and microphone. It will be powered by the Intel Atom Cedar Trail 1.6 GHz N2600 processor and the video graphics come from the Intel GMA 3600 integrated graphics card. As usual, there will be just 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and there is a useful 250 GB hard disk drive (HDD) for storage purposes.

Other features will include a card reader, three standard USB 2.0 ports and a multi-touch track pad, while networking is provided by the installed 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and an Ethernet connection if required. There is a six cell battery pack installed, that according to Gateways own description will provide the user with up to eight hours of power while running on the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system.

The Gateway LT4004U is available right now with a starting price of $280, for anyone who wants the same computer but with different branding features, and then there is the Acer Aspire One D270 Cedar Trail netbook, which is available at the same price.

Eurocoms Panther 4.0 is a monster

When Eurocom announce a new laptop, it is something that cannot be missed for any reason and the Panther 4.0 will make you pleased that your took time out to take a look for like its name the Panther 4.0 is a real beast of a machine.

The first that you will notice is the size, its thick at nearly two and half inches, it is heavy at over twelve pounds and of course, even the base model is fully loaded with features and specs, this all means that the Panther 4.0 is something else.

Eurocom have gone for a 17.3 inch full HD display with a choice between Matte, Glossy or 3D displays offering a 1920 x 1080 of pixel resolution and built in 2 mega pixel FHD web camera.

It will be powered by Intel’s latest chip, the 6 core, 12 thread, 130W desktop i7-3960X Processor Extreme edition this is of course, based on the Intel X79 Express Chipset Sandy Bridge-E architecture.

When it comes to graphics there is a choice of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M GPUs, the NVIDIA Quadro 5010M running in Single or Dual SLI (Scalable Link Interface) Video Technology mode or there is even the AMD Radeon HD 6990M running in single or Dual CrossFireX mode.

Internal memory offers up to 32 GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM with four 8 GB SODIMM 204 pin modules and this laptop has support for four Solid State, Hard Disk or Hybrid storage drives and RAID 0/1/5/10, so storage is not an issue with the laptop either.

Other features include the three fast USB 3.0 ports, two standard USB 2.0 ports and the HDMI 1.4a output port. The Panther measures 16.76 inches x 11.44 inches x 2.31 inches and it weighs in at 12.1 pounds while offering just one hour of built-in Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) battery power.

The Panther 4.0 will be coming out in March with a starting price of around $2,700!

Samsung introduces the NC110-Pororo

In the past designing a specific netbook or laptop for kids has been a hit or miss affair, but Samsung have taken this one step further with the launch of the NC110 Pororo netbook. It has been designed using a popular South Korean penguin type cartoon character with the name Pororo.

As such, Samsung have taken the basic ten inch netbook and transformed it with decals on the lid and installing a hundred and fourteen episodes of the cartoon onto the hard drive ready to watched whenever the little kids feel like it. However, as we said this is a based on a ten inch netbook and therefore it is going to offer some interesting specs.

Samsung use its standard 10.1 inch LCD LED backlit widescreen display with a 1024 x 600 of pixel resolutions and there is even a built in 0.3 mega pixel web camera for video calling etc. Powering this machine will be a second generation Dual Core Intel Atom central low power usage processor; there is no mention of the graphics card so we assume it will be a basic unit.

Inside there is 1 GB of internal DDR3 memory and a hard disk drive (HDD) that has not specific size to it, but has to be in the region of 250 GB to enable the storage of all those cartoon episodes and to have a bit left over.

As normal with netbooks, this version has Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0+HS network adapters installed. It also features three USB ports, an HDMI interface, a chiclet style keyboard and a stereo speaker system.

As for weight is around 1.16 kilos and that includes the integrated 6 cell battery which should be good for a few hours when running the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

The NC110 Pororo has gone on sale in South Korea with a price tag of around $450, there is no news as to if this will be available anywhere else as that would depend on the popularity of Pororo.

Epson launches the Endeavor Na14S netbook

These days it seems that a netbook is merely just a small computer, thanks to the tablet invasion netbooks have fallen out favour with consumers and therefore the manufacturers are not too keen on bringing out anything new to this market.

However, it seems that Epson, are of the opinion that there is room for just one more netbook and so they have come up with the Endeavor Na14S! It has a 10.1 inch display, uses the 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 processor and the Intel NM10 Express Chipset making this an interesting addition to the netbook market, even if it is just the market in Japan for now.

The Na14S comes with the normal 10.1 inch LCD LED back lit widescreen display with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and there is even room for a built in web camera and microphone.

Epson achieves lower power consumption through the Intel Atom N550 processor with two cores that act more like four thanks to the Intel Hyper Threading technology clocking it at 1.5 GHz and supporting the Intel NM10 Express Chipset. While video and graphics come from the integrated GMA 3150 graphics controller.

As for memory, there is a usable 1 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM and to save space and weight it uses a 64 GB solid state drive (SSD) although there is an option to go for the 250 GB hard disk drive (HDD) if required.

There is the normal wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n adapter and other features include the VGA-out, security lock slot, three into one memory card reader and three standard USB 2.0 ports. According to Epson the built in 4400 mAh Li-Ion battery will run for up to 6.1 hours while running Microsoft’s Windows 7 Starter operating system.

The Endeavor Na14S has been released in Japan with a starting price of $423 and maybe it will even turn up on the shelves of other markets too, one day!

Asus will be launching a new U series

This summer or possibly earlier Asus will be adding to its already busy line of thin and light laptops, which are these days known as ultrabooks with the U47A and the U47VC complete with smart brushed aluminium alloy chassis. The two models appear to be more or less the same in specs and features, apart from the U47A with its integrated Intel HD graphics and the U47VC using the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. With that being the only visible difference so far, let us check out what these two ultrabooks really do have to offer.

The U series will feature a 14 inch display with a bezel so thin that it measures just over 13 inches, the display is an LED backlit in high definition with an aspect ratio of 16:9, 1366 x 768 of pixel resolutions and it even has a built in 0.3 mega pixel web camera. Asus will probably be using the latest Intel Ivy Bridge processors, which come out in Q2 of this year, so expect either the Core i3 or Core i5 variety. It is also safe to say that the next generation discrete GPU built by Nvidia will also features in the U series.

According to sources there will be up to 8 GB of system memory and the option to go from the base 320 GB up to 1 TB hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD) with possibility of a spindle speed to 7200 RPM, which is great for faster data access etc. Other known features will of course be the HDMI output, optional Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, super multi DVD drive and a couple of fast connecting USB 3.0 ports. Asus are saying that there will be up to eight hours of battery life, which is great considering that the U Series will weigh in at just 2.9 pounds (1.32 Kg) and will around an inch thick (25.1 mm) now that is what you call an ultrabook.

Naturally, it is too early to know the starting price of the U Series, but keep an eye out for it at the end of Q2 or the beginning of Q3.

The Clevo P270WM notebook for gamers

One of the first things that you are going to notice about the Clevo P270WM notebook is that you can get one of those super charged Core i7 Intel processors installed, until now these would only have been found in a desk top PC, but obviously not any more. The next thing that you may notice is that they have left off details on weight and the battery, so this would suggest to us that this laptop is going to be really heavy maybe even touching seven kilos and the battery will not be offering much life away from the mains power socket.

But having said that, the Clevo P270WM notebook is a serious gamers machine and as such it offer so many options and upgrades that it is almost like building your computer but without having to assemble it. Basically, what we have here is a 3D capable 17.3 inch Full high definition LED glossy display with built in microphone and web camera. The base unit is powered by the six core Intel LGA2011 i7-3930K processor, but will support the super charged six core i7-3960X processor with a maximum of 3.8 GHz clock speed. It will also feature a single or dual mobile nVidia GeForce GTX 580M, which is said to be fastest around in dual mode.

There are up to four memory slots available that offer up to 32 GB of DDR3 SODIMM RAM at speeds of up to 1866 MHz. Storage starts with a 750 GB 7200 RPM hard disk drive (HDD) but will go up to three 9.5 inch hard disk drives (HDD) or solid stata drives (SSD) to save space and weight. Other features in the backlit keyboard, HDMI output port and there three fast connecting USB 3.0 ports.

Prices for the P270WM will start at around $3,000 and will just keep going up with every option chosen; the sky is the limit with the Clevo P270WM notebook.

Toshiba Satellite U840 shows up down under

There have been rumours of a new version of the Toshiba Portege for some time now and it seems that the new Satellite U840 could fit the bill! It is a new light and slim ultrabook, finished in a lovely aluminium effect, running Windows 7 and powered by an Intel i5 processor, now that sounds like a Portege replacement and therefore we need to take a closer look at it.

The Satellite U840 has a 14.0 inch widescreen high definition LED Backlit Display that supports 720p, 16:9 aspect ratio with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolution and there is even room for a built in web camera and microphone.

It will be powered by the middle of the range Intel ULV Core i5-2467M processor that offers 1.60 GHz to 2.30 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB and a 3 MB L2 Cache and supports the Intel HM65 Express Chipset. While the graphics are from the Intel HD Graphics 3000 card with 1696 MB, total 64 MB dedicated memory + 1632 MB shared memory. There is a handy 8 GB of DDR3 RAM made up with 4 GB + 4 GB at 1333 Mhz and the storage is provided by the Hybrid 320 GB at 5400 rpm and in keeping with the ultrabook theme, there is a useful 16 GB solid state drive (SSD).

Networking is provided by the usual 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and the 10/100 Mbps LAN Ethernet option. As for connectivity there are three USB Ports 2 x standard USB 2.0 and 1 x fast USB 3.0 plus Sleep & Charge, there is also an HDMI port and support for the Intel WiDi wireless video streaming technology. It will be running on the Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) operating system with service pack 1, weighs in at a light 1.73 kg and finally it measures a slim 342 mm (W) x 232 mm (D) x 19.9 mm (H).

The Satellite U840 has shown up on the Toshiba website in Australia and New Zealand with a starting price tag of around $1,600 USD, no news of a US launch though so far!

Eurocom launches the Leopard 2.0 laptop

This is the latest desk top replacement from Eurocom, they call it the Leopard 2.0 and it offers a wide range of options and upgrades that can take the final price sky high if the buyer is not careful. However, what we are looking at here is a laptop that is at the starting point more or less and even so it still very impressive in both specs and looks. Eurocom may not be the first laptop brand of choice, but maybe it is worth a look.

Eurocom Leopard 2.0 is a 18.4-inch laptop with a Full high definition glossy LED back lit display offering 1920 x 1080 of pixel resolution and with a built in 2 mega pixel web camera for handy face to face conversations. It will be powered by the top of the range Intel Core i7 2670M extreme processor, supporting the Intel HM67 chipset and with graphics being provided by the highly capable NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M (1.5 GB DDR5) single or dual SLI graphics card.

Internal memory starts at 8 GB of DDR3-1333 but can be as high as 24 GB according to the demands of the buyer and storage starts at the 7200 RPM 500 GB SATA HDD, but this is upgradable to up to 4 TB of storage with four physical drives made up with a choice of either a solid state drive (SSD), hard disk drive (HDD) or Solid Hybrid drive.

Networking is straight forward with a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connection and other features include the THX TruStudio Pro sound system, a 9-in-1 card reader, 8x DVD burner, a fingerprint reader, two fast connecting USB 3.0 ports, there is also a DVI and HDMI port too, for connecting to a larger external display. The Leopard 2.0 weighs 5.6 kg (12.32 lbs) with the 8-cell battery in place and measures 439 mm (W) x 299 mm (D) x 44 to 65 (H) mm (17.56 inch x 11.96 inch x 1.76 to 2.6 inch).

According to the Eurocom website, the Leopard 2.0 will have a starting price of around $1,600!

Toshiba launches the dynabook Qosmio T551 entertainment laptop

When it comes to the Toshiba dynabook Qosmio range of laptops, there is already a wide choice and the range has just been given a new addition with the T551 entertainment laptop. It comes with an impressive list of features and specs that have been chosen to make this laptop the ideal choice for the buyer that loves video. There are two different models in the dynabook Qosmio T551 range but they difference is only the colour of the case, with the T551/T4EW (PT551T4EBFW – White) and the T551/T4EB (PT551T4EBFB – Black)!

However overall the dynabook Qosmio T551 is an interesting laptop with a 15.6 inch high definition TFT clear super view LED back lit display (power-saving backlight) with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolutions and there is a built in 1.3 mega pixel web camera. It will be powered by a slightly strange choice in the 1.60 GHz Intel Celeron B815 processor, with video coming through the Intel HD Graphics card and it supports the Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset.

Connectivity and networking is covers by the Wireless WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g/n and a whole host of various ports that include a RGB × 1, USB 2.0 × 3, USB 3.0 × 1, LAN (RJ45) × 1, HDMI × 1 and a Mouse Wireless Laser mouse too.

Toshiba claim that there is a battery life of approximately 3.4 hours available to the user. The laptop weighs in at 3 kg and come with dimensions of 380.5 mm × 254.0 mm × 28.0 to 35.6 mm, finally this laptop will be running the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version operating system.

According to Toshiba, the dynabook Qosmio T551/T4E should be available in Japan right now with a starting price of around $1,800.

Asus show off the K73SM laptop

Here is yet another smart looking laptop from Asus, they call it simply the K73SM, but this is a machine that is worthy of more than just a number really. This is a multi purpose computer that will be looked at by gamers, business users and even students, although the $1,300 may put some students off.

The K73SM has everything that a laptop of this stature should have, such as the i7 Intel processor, GeForce graphics card and a decent sized display, but it will still be a couple months before it becomes available, which is a little disappointing for buyers in the market right now.

The Asus K73SM has a 17.3 inch LCD high definition + glare (Colour Shine) display with an aspect ratio of 16:9, pixel resolution of 1600 x 900 and it comes with a built in 0.3 mega pixel web camera with microphone, which is idea for face to face Skype calls etc.

It will be powered the top of the range 2.20 GHz Intel Core i7-2670QM processor, supported by the Nvidia GeForce GT 630M graphics card. While storage choices range from a 750 GB to 1 TB hard disk drive (HDD) and with an internal memory of 4 GB up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, this laptop appears to have all the bases covered.

The essential networking kit is covered by the Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n Gigabit Ethernet and there is a Bluetooth 4.0 installed ready to connect to local devices. Others features of the K73SM are the DVD Super Multi drive (DVDRW / DVD-RAM), multiple card slots that connect with SD, flash drive and multimedia cards. When it comes to entertainment, there are the integrated Altec Lansing speakers and the following essential ports LAN, HDMI, USB 2.0, and VGA.

Asus have chosen to load this laptop with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (SP1) operating system and a 6-cell 5200 mAh battery that take the weight to 3.2 kg with the dimensions of 42 cm x 28 cm x 3.9 cm.

According to Asus, the K73SM will be available around March this year and it have a starting price of around $1,300!

The new Alienware line-up revealed

These are what we believe to be the next generation of Alienware models for 2012, the M14X R2 14 inch display, the M17X R4 17.3 inch display, and the M18X R2 18.4 inch display. There is one thing that is missing this range! There does not seem to be a place in the latest Alienware product range for the M11x R4 or perhaps this one will be a surprise. The R2 option means that the buyer can choose between a red or black exterior finish, while the R4 means that you can have any colour you like so long as it is black!

So what do we have to look forward to with these new additions to the Alienware range? From what we can gather the R2 units, the M14X R2 and M18X R2. These gamer’s machines have been designed so that the graphics processing unit or GPU will be installed as part of the motherboard, which is interesting. There will also be user options on memory ranging from 1 GB to 2 GB right and that should be music to the ears of serious gamers.

Fortunately, there are more details on the M17X R4 model. but the first thing to remember here, is that this is Dell and so these laptops are coming with a wide range of options for the buyer to choose in order to make the machine personal to their gaming needs. So naturally there will several GPU options that will include up to two NVIDIA options, such as the GeForce VTX 660M and the GeForce GTX 675M. However, some gamers may like the chance to go with something else, so there is an option to go with the AMD Radeon 7970M graphics card. Last but definitely not least is the M18X R2 model, but here we can only offer as this is the R2 model, it will come in a choice of either red or black, sometimes colour means a lot to gamers too!

When it comes to prices and availability, we have no information what so ever. All we can assume here it is that Dell will probably want to go with the latest Intel Ivy Bridge range of processors for these machines and as Intel are not releasing them until some point in the second quarter of the year this should be a clue to when this range of laptops become available too.

Save $350 on the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470p

Lenovo are offering some terrific savings on the fourteen inch IdeaPad Y470p laptop, for this week only a buyer could save up to $350 on the Lenovo starting price, with delivery estimated a week later. There is something smart looking about the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470p with that brown grain style top and matt black casing, it looks so stylish and comes with a decent specs too for the $749 price tag.

The IdeaPad Y470p comes with a 14.0 inch high definition glare LED Back light display with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolution with an integrated 2.0 mega pixel web camera installed. It will be powered by the second generation Intel Core i5-2450M Processor with 2.50 GHz 1333 MHz and 3 MB. While graphics and video will be provided through the AMD Radeon high definition 7690 1 GB graphics card.

There is a nice sized internal memory offering 6 GB PC3-10600 of DDR3 SDRAM at 1333 MHz and Lenovo have gone for a storage solution with a 500 GB 5400 hard disk drive (HDD). As for networking, the IdeaPad Y470p uses the Intel 1000 BGN Wireless solution and there is also Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR, which is handy for connecting wirelessly to other nearby devices.

Other features available are the HDMI port and a DVD Recordable (Dual Layer) player, allowing the user to watch movies and other video on a larger screen. Finally, it is on the heavy side weighing in at 5.44 pounds with the six Cell Lithium-Ion battery pack installed.

As for the price of the IdeaPad Y470p, once again Lenovo say that its $1,099, but the web price is $949 and with the eCoupon code; WEEKLYDEAL0202 the final price is $749 and that is a saving of $350, although this saving could easily be wiped out with the choice of upgrades and other options.

Asus shows off the new ZENBOOK UX31E-RY256S

The Taiwan based computer maker Asus simply cannot stop bringing out new models and designs, they are like a machine that just keeps going and the firms latest offering the ZENBOOK UX31E-RY256S is yet another example.

This new 13.3 inch ZENBOOK UX31E-RY256S is a far cry from those early days, as it appears to be on the edge between laptop and ultrabook territory. It is thin and light, appears to have an all metal case and if looks are to go on this is a winner. It is still early days for the ZENBOOK UX31E-RY256S meaning that the specs and features are a little thin on the ground, but as usual, we will do our best with what is currently available.

The ZENBOOK UX31E-RY256S will have a 13.3-inch high definition LCD display with a 1600 x 900 of pixel resolutions and there appears to be a built in web camera too. It is going to be powered by middle of the range 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5-2467M processor and it will be supported by the handy Intel QS67 Express Chipset. As for internal memory this 4 GB of DDR3 RAM available and in line with the ultrabook theme, there will be a slim and light 256 GB solid state drive (SSD) for storage purposes.

Networking comes from the normal Wi-Fi and thankfully, there will also be Bluetooth 4.0 installed. Other features will include a fast USB 3.0 port, an multi SD card slot, but there is only mini HDMI port available for connecting to external displays and finally, running the whole show will be the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (SP1) operating system.

According to Asus this 13.3 inch ZENBOOK will go on sale in Japan on February 3rd with a price tag of around $1,438!

LG will release the Z430 Ultrabook during Q1

LG have raised the stakes when it comes to ultrabooks with the new Z430 laptop, this is a real smart looking machine finished in polished metal and as light as a laptop could be. The Z430 is not currently available but is definitely worth the wait to see if is actually does live up to the standards that LG claim.

When LG says that the Z430 Ultrabook is going to be compact, they meant it, because of its slim bezel the Z430 has a fourteen inch display panel fitted into the same chassis that would have been used for a thirteen inch notebook.

Other features are that it is powered by the top of range Intel Core i7 processor, comes with a choice of a solid state drive (SSD) or a hard disk drive (HDD) or both! With a storage capacity of up to 500GB

Buyers will love the Super Speed Boot with just twelve seconds of booting up time. It is thin with a 19.9 mm thick chassis, light at 1.50 kg in line with super Ultrabook demands and it comes with a very smart looking metallic cover with a gyro-brush line finish.

According to J.J. Lee, who it the Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics IT Business Unit, he said in the official press release for LG;

“At this year’s CES, LG will showcase products that are not only new, but also establish categories defining new standards for personal computing devices,”

He finished off by saying;

“Our new products feature a range of breakthrough technologies from LG, such as IPS display, glasses-free 3D and Super Speed Boot, that will noticeably elevate the personal computing experience. These technologies reflect our goal of satisfying various consumer demands, as well as our aggressive strategy for 2012.”

LG will be launching the Z430 ultrabook range during the first quarter of this year, when we will be getting more specifications and prices.

Take a look at the new HP Pavilion dm4-3000

The newly released Pavilion dm4-3000 from HP is one of those laptops that offers so many options and upgrades that is difficult to see where an average set up would be.
