Buying A New Laptop? Don’t Get Your Fingers Burned!

Ok, so you’ve been thinking about buying your first laptop for quite a while now but haven’t got round to it yet, or perhaps your old one has just about had it and the time really has come to start looking for a new one. Where do you start?

The thing is, regardless of whether it’s your first or your umpteenth laptop, you’ve still got to spend a bit of time looking around for one that you like and of course one that is suitable for what you want to use it for. You would also have to consider the make and model, the size and colour, the specifications, and whether or not it does everything that you want a laptop to do. Unless you already know exactly what you want or are just buying the same one you had before, you could also do with knowing if a particular laptop lives up to the claims on its marketing blurb, something you could only find out by hearing what others have to say who have already tried that laptop, or by reading expert reviews like the ones here on Geek with Laptop.

Don’t forget though that when you’re faced with such an overwhelming array of different laptops on the market all trying to grab your attention if you’re not well informed you could very easily end up making a quick decision just to get it over and done with and run the risk of buying the wrong laptop and worse, paying over the odds for it at the same time. So how can you avoid making costly mistakes and find the laptop of your dreams? Basically you have 3 different choices.

The first one is to try doing it the hard way and read all the magazines, ask everyone you know and traipse round all the different stores in your neighbourhood and maybe even beyond looking for that special laptop, wasting petrol or fares and not to mention putting in the legwork in the process. Now that would be pretty stupid wouldn’t it? I mean you have the Internet at your disposal and you can browse to your heart’s content and find out everything you need to know without opening your mouth or moving your butt off your seat can’t you. So we will quickly dismiss that one and go straight to the second choice.

You type your search terms into Google or any other search engine and off you go, couldn’t be easier could it? Wrong! You are likely to find yourself wading through hundreds of different pages most of which are probably going to be completely irrelevant unless you’re a whiz at knowing exactly what search criteria to enter. Even if you do have a handle on key words you still want to read different reviews on your chosen laptop so to save time you would need to open up multiple windows in order to compare one to another. Not exactly ideal is it?

Unfortunately the result is more or less the same for both first and second choices except that now you burn out your fingers and frazzle your brain in the process. You are still likely to end up frustrated after only a short period of time and with even less of a clue as to which laptop to buy than you did before.  But not to worry, there’s another way of finding that special laptop that has your name on it as you still have a third choice.

What you could do is find reviews that are all in one place such as right here at Geek with Laptop and if you really can’t find what you’re looking for, let us know and we will put it right. You could also take a peek at Test Freaks as they specialise in user generated reviews , cool eh? So the answer is simple, go where the work has already been done and read all the reviews on one site and then there’s no need to waste time and energy at all.
