Birthday Gifts For Men !

Here’s the problem with buying birthday gifts for guys: We’re only going to tell you the very cheapest thing on our wish list. Even if what we want isn’t really all that pricy, remember that we’re the gender that invented never asking directions, trying to fix our own cars (no matter how little we actually know about them), and fighting over who gets to pay the check. A lot of dudes feel a little insecure about asking someone to spend a few bucks on them, so it’s not always easy getting an honest answer to the simple question “what do you want for your birthday?”

If you’re looking for advice on what to buy, we’re going to have to assume that the guy you’re shopping for isn’t telling you what he’d really love to open on his birthday. If so, read on, but don’t say we didn’t warn you that he’s going to tell you “You shouldn’t have” about a million times before finally admitting defeat and actually enjoying his gift.

The main problem with buying gadgets is that it’s such a competitive market, and you never know what’s going to be obsolete in a year, so we’ll try to list what looks like it’s actually going to stick around for awhile.

DVD Players

Blu-Ray

Forget HD-DVD. Blu-ray won the format war. It’s a little more expensive, but the price will start dropping before long (that’s just the nature of new technology), and HD-DVD is pretty much the modern day Betamax. Warner Brothers, Universal, and Paramount are all going Blu-ray, with WB and Universal even abandoning HD.

Cell Phones

iPhone

Yeah, this one is kind of obvious. The iPhone 3G is significantly more powerful than the original iPhone, but the original isn’t exactly obsolete just yet, either. Either version can handle text messaging, playing media, voicemail, and web browsing with no problems.

BlackBerry

People may be talking more about the iPhone these days, but don’t count the BlackBerry out just yet. Earlier this year, RIM announced that the total number of BlackBerry subscribers has gone well past fourteen million. The iPhone may be a little trendier, but you can’t really go wrong with either of these options.

Video Games

Xbox 360

For general gaming purposes, it looks like the Xbox 360 is going to stick around longest, while the Playstation 3 takes a nosedive. Gamers will tell you why: The Xbox 360 has better games, better online play, and it just saw a massive price drop.

Nintendo Wii

Gamers are mostly flocking to the 360, but the Nintendo Wii is a great option for casual and family games. Plus, it’s the cheapest system on the market.

Nintendo DS

The other portable system, the PSP, isn’t really seeing much use as an actual game console. Most PSP users, disappointed by the lack of good games and weak hardware, are just using their units to check their email and listen to music. The Nintendo DS, on the other hand, has attracted a number of popular game developers, and it looks like they’re going to keep making games for this system long after the PSP has been rendered obsolete.

I think that this list was a very typical list of gifts that a man would ask for. The funny thing about your opening paragraph is that the man I love always tells us what he wants for a gift, regardless of the price! lol Maybe he is just not typical!

Being a guy myself I can’t say that I wouldn’t love a nice iPhone for my birthday. I’m usually good at subtle hints, but my girlfriend is good like that. All I have to say is I want an iPhone for my birthday and she’d probably buy it for me.
