It wasn’t long a go when the words ‘gaming’ and ‘laptop’ were never used in the same sentence.
Laptops were used by business men in suits for putting PowerPoint presentations on big screens and desktops were for the rest of us. The desktop was king of all things games related. Well step aside big-box-like piece of computer hardware because the consumer has spoken……..and Alienware listened.
The Alienware Area-51 M15x is considered by many to be the fasted laptop in the world, and, with a NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX video card, has record breaking screen resolution.
So it’s quick and the display is impressive…… anything else come with it?
Alienware decided against fitting the normal VGA-out and S-Video laptop outputs and fitted a HDMI output instead (High Definition Multimedia Interface – the next step forward in connecting to external audio/video).
It has the usual suspects in the connectivity department - modem, ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WIFI and Bluetooth.
So, you have the best gaming laptop money can buy, and you have stored on there heaps of ’sensitive’ data (everyone has their own version of ’sensitive data’, if you know what I mean!) and a friend comes round and tries to fire up your new pride and joy. Well, using AlienSense Face Login…. the webcam scans your face for biometric information to determine who you are and what level of access your account has. Or, you’ve logged in and your sneeky friend is waiting for you to go to the bathroom….. the webcam senses your not visible and ‘locks down’. How cool is that?
Is there anything wrong with this cool superfast gaming laptop?
Well there is a price tag that varies from big to “I think I’m going to be sick” depending on the optional extras you want. Various users have commented on the cool looking, but unusable, touchpad mouse (It’s a laptop for playing games on…. when did you last try to play COD4 with a touchpad…. puuuuhhhlease!). Comments on exterior styling float around the ‘net (again I ask you, have you ever tried playing COD4 whilst looking at the back of the laptop?!).
To summarise, it’s fantastic to play games on but it doesn’t look too good from the outside. I certainly wouldn’t complain if I was given one!
