If you want the very best coverage available when it comes to finding and killing each and every virus that tries to weasel its way into your hard drive, sorry to say, but you’re probably going to have to spend a dollar or two. There’s some great virus protection available at the bargain price, but there’s some excellent virus protection available if you’re willing to spend a little more for perfect coverage.
And, luckily, there is such a thing as very good virus protection for free. There’s also a lot of junk out there for free, virus protection that’s about as good a defense against infection as a wet paper towel. But, since we might get sued for naming any of them, we’ll have to focus on the good ones for now!
Avira AntiVir
What Avira really has going for it is that it is updated at least once a day. In other words, some days you might get two, three, even more updates in a matter of just a few hours. What this shows is that Avira is doing everything possible to keep their database of known viruses as up to date as possible.
Viruses keep evolving, and every single time an anti-virus program is updated, the virus makers try to figure a way around these new safety measures. So, of course, it only makes sense for antivirus makers to keep working just as hard to keep up with the virus makers. Avira goes the extra mile and works twice as hard as the virus makers.
Avast! Home Edition
While Avast’s website really pushes the business edition and the complete package, Avast Home Edition really does get the job done. It’s not updated quite as frequently as Avira, but, it is updated on a regular basis, very often on a daily basis, and it will keep your computer clean.
What Avast has over Avira is that it is so incredibly easy to use, even your grandmother could run a scan without having to call tech support.
Amongst all the available free virus killers, the two listed above might just be the best. Whatever you do, though, don’t waste money on calling a virus removal service to do the job for you! Most of our readers are probably already wise to this, but it’s really not that hard to take care of it yourself without spending an arm and a leg. Most antivirus programs are pretty self explanatory. Just make sure you’re protected with a free, bargain, or full price antivirus program.
