The other day I posted about the rise in spam this holiday season and last night I got a comment from Michael Hampton of Homeland Stupidity the creator of the Bad Behavior script which helps deny automated spambots access to PHP-based Web sites.
Michael was kind enough to let me know in that comment and also a follow up email that a new version would be released in the coming days which fixes a few issues with false positives that I’ve experienced as well as a few of my friends and clients.
Some of the things fixed in this latest release of Bad Behavior:
- Verizon Wireless EV-DO users are no longer blocked.
- Blocked requests will be subject to a two-second delay before a response is sent.
- Some blackhole lists previously used in Bad Behavior have been scaled back or removed.
- The address for the Bad Behavior Blackhole has been added.
- Some new spambots have been identified and blocked.
Thanks Michael for your wonderful script and taking the time to personally let me and my readers know about your updated version and the continued progress of Bad Behavior.
To find out more about this release, check out the official Bad Behavior blog.
Heads up for my friends, family and clients who I maintain blog hosting for, you’ve already been updated to the latest release as of this morning, I’m just now posting about it, so if you experience any glitches or false positives, let me know and I will pass it on to Michael to check out.

Thanks for the info about Bad Behaviour, but the main thing I wanted to say was: You’ve got an excellent blog design here! *whistles*
Frankly, I’ve not seen anything like it! I’m no designer myself, but I can still appreciate something very neat.
Love the light from the lamps!
Really impressive.
Hi Mrs Lifecruiser.
Nice of you to pop by this evening and thank you for your kind words about my blog.
I’m glad I was able to point out the Bad Behavior update to you. It’s a really nice script/plugin.
It’s also nice to hear that you haven’t seen anything like it.
That was the idea with the redesign back in September, to have a look and feel different from other blogs but still keep the same geeky feel and darker colors as my previous design.
Having content separate from design makes it really nice to change up my site design. Yay XHTML and CSS!
The design is looking lovely, especially with that new 9rules logo. Congratulations on that!!
It looks great here.
YEA!! . . .
Thanks Liz. Glad you find my design lovely… you’re so silly
I am also a fan of the Bad Behavior plugin. I’ve only had it installed for a week, and it’s already blocked 142 access attempts. Since installing, I’ve only received about three spam comments, which Akismet conveniently caught.
Hi Ronalfy.
Having both Bad Behavior and Akismet running can do a lot of good for your site, so it’s nice to hear about others doing the same as well.
My stats, as of this comment, Bad Behavior has blocked 1435 access attempts in the last 7 days.
