Asus to launch new version of the PC X101
The prolific computer maker Asus is once again expanding its range computers this time to accommodate the latest Intel Cedar Trail based processors. The first model to get this processor will be the slim Eee PC X101, the 1.33 GHz Intel Atom N435 processor with be replaced by the new Intel mobile Atom Cedar Trail platform with 1.6 GHz and it will support Intel’s Hyper Threading technology.
The ultra-slim Eee PC X101CH has a 10.1 inch display with a 1024 x 600 of pixel resolution and it even has a handy built in web camera.
This newer version of the X101 will be powered by the 1.6 GHz Intel Cedar Trail based Atom N2600 dual core processor and the graphics and video will be through the Intel GMA 5600 graphics card.
When it comes to memory, the 1 GB of DDR3 RAM is nothing to get too excited about and the 320 GB hard disk drive (HDD) is about average for a machine in this sector of the market.
For sharing data, there is a useful card reader and for networking, there is the built in Wi-Fi and there is an optional Bluetooth 3.0 feature, for a netbook this is actually essential for connecting to local devices.
The X101 comes with a four cell battery that Asus claim could be good for up to five hours of use, but it all depends on how the machine is being used and finally it will be running on the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system.
The Eee PC X101CH appeared for a short while on a UK based computer retail site for a short while before disappearing as fast as it appeared in the first place. However, according to the pricing structure, the Eee PC X101CH should be selling for around $331 in the US, when it finally hits the stores in early 2012.
