Asus are creating more than just ripples of excitement with their plans to introduce the Asus fold and unfold Netbook; the first of its kind as far as Netbook design goes.

This new Netbook is unique in that it will feature a sliding keyboard that slides backwards as the screen is opened up creating a lot more room for the keyboard, the keys, the track pad and the palm rest without compromising on the smaller size of the Netbook itself.

The raised keyboard also allows for more airflow which also acts as a cooling mechanism for the components underneath.

Asus are getting used to producing firsts as far as Netbooks go. Whenever you hear anyone talking about Netbooks you can be sure that Asus will crop up in the conversation somewhere. After all, they gave us the first ever Netbook back in 2007 and we loved it.

The award winning Eee PC hit the streets in October 2007 sparking a Netbook war that continues today. Incidentally, Eee stands for easy to learn, easy to work and easy to play.

Other companies soon followed on the heels of Asus and produced their own Netbooks and we lapped them up. Netbooks are now the fastest growing segment of the PC market and this doesn’t look set to change any time soon.

Netbooks are basically ultra portable computers designed primarily for browsing the Internet and for emails when you’re on the move.

They are smaller and lighter than conventional laptops so easy to carry around. However, the smaller size brings challenges with creating a functional Netbook complete with a keypad that isn’t too small to operate with ease.

Asus’s fold and unfold Netbook takes care of that problem very nicely and I’m sure it won’t be long before that becomes a common feature on other Netbooks.

You must be wondering how much you will be expected to pay for this ultra cool machine. No, it doesn’t come cheap.

According to reports, retail prices are going to be around the $1000 to $1500 mark which is a lot more expensive than what you would normally pay for a standard Netbook, but then again, this is no standard Netbook.

If you want one, the Asus fold and unfold Netbook is expected to become a commercial reality later this year around September or October.

We’ll be waiting.
