Things just don’t slow down for a second in the world of ultra-portable, ultra-powerful laptops. You think you’ve seen it all, and then out of nowhere you are suddenly dazzled by an ultra-high tech, ridiculously powerful, and super-light machine that has features James Bond himself would be pleased with.
So it is with great anticipation that ASUS has just launched the new N20A laptop, which at 12” is almost ridiculously tiny, but still manage to pack a powerful punch.
In such a small machine, you would be forgiven for thinking that there is not an awful lot of space in which to put anything of note. You will therefore be pleased to know that those clever people at ASUS have managed to fit in an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a 12.1″ WXGA display, and a DVD burner.
On top of this, several Core 2 Duo chips are available to choose from, up to 4GB RAM is on offer, and you can get a maximum of 320GB HDD. The integrated Web cam and card reader are also nice little features, and somehow they have managed to find lots of room for ports.
There are also a number of fantastic new technologies at work in the laptop to make it especially appealing. These include a scratch-resistant panel courtesy of ASUS Infusion Technology, an AuthenTec fingerprint sensor, and (wait for it) SmartLogon facial recognition software!
So now you just have to sit down at your screen and it knows instantly who you are. For me that sounds like one more step towards the day when our computers greet us in the morning and try to distract us from our work, but this is the way things are going.
And all this is coming in at quite a modest US $999, which is quite simply ludicrously low for what is on offer.
