Asus finally launch the Eee Pad Slider SL101
You have to think back to the CES 2011 in Las Vegas back in January to first time that Asus showed the Eee Pad Slider SL101 off, but it has taken them almost eight months to get into gear and deliver the device to the retail sector. Even so, it seems that it will only be available from online retailers, which means the first time that the customer gets hands on with this netbook is after they have paid for it!
The Eee Pad Slider comes with a 10.1 inch LED Back light WXGA Screen with Gorilla Scratch resistant glass, a pixel resolution of 1280 x 800 and it comes with a built in 1.2 Mega Pixel forward facing web Camera. The Slider is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 1.0 GHz dual core CPU, which is supposed to be good for both multitasking and high definition video playback, but not necessarily at the same time! There is a memory of just 1 GB of RAM and a choice of either the 16 GB and 32 GB of storage, although there is also an Unlimited Complimentary one year trial of ASUS Web Storage.
Networking is by a WLAN 802.11 b/g/n @2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and there is also a Bluetooth V2.1+ EDR connection too. While for external connections, there is 1 x USB 2.0 port and a handy Mini HDMI port. The netbook measures just 273 mm (L) x 180.3 mm (W) x 17.3 mm (D) and it weighs in at a very light 960 grams with the 25Wh Li-Polymer Battery installed that Asus say is good for around eight hours of use. Finally this computer will be running the Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system although if can be 3.2 upgradable and it comes with Adobe Flash support.
The prices of the Eee Pad Slider SL101 vary from place to place, but it seems to at around $475 for the 16 GB version and rises to around $600 for the 32 GB model.
