Are you Ready for the Amiga Netbook?

POSTED BY Greg IN Laptops, News ON 24 Oct 2011

In great news for old school geeks, it looks like Amiga are set to release a netbook.  Amiga fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time, with Hyperion (developers of AmigaOS) announcing the birth of a budget PowerPC netbook that runs the Amiga operating system.

The Amiga netbook is said to cost between $300 and $500, a price which will include the AmigaOS4 operating system.  While $300 is likely to generate many more sales, I am quite sure some of the Amiga nuts out there would be prepared to pay much more.

The computer will be sourced “in a special configuration from an OEM”, with an integrated graphics chip, 512MB of RAM, and a few gigabytes of storage.  Connectivity is likely to be fairly standard, with the usual selection of USB, audio, and ethernet ports on offer.  The Amiga netbook will also have a wireless connection chip.

However, in the bad news, this computer is unlikely to be ready until mid-2012.  If you can’t wait until then to get your Amiga fix however, there is also the launch of the unique AmigaOne X1000 desktop computer in the next few months.  This will be the only computer ever to ship with an Apple processor that isn’t a Mac or iOS device, and is expected sometime around Christmas.

While the specs for the Amiga netbook have not yet been released, here is the full list of specifications for the X1000:
