Apple to offer Black Friday deals in the UK

Apple to offer Black Friday deals in the UK Apple to offer Black Friday deals in the UKNo doubt many Apple fans in the UK will be delighted with the news that Apple UK has confirmed that it will be participating in ‘Black Friday’ this year.

All Apple customers have been sent an email from Apple wishing them “Happy Friday” and inviting them to take advantage of a “one day shopping event” both in store and online.

“Prices are only for 27/11/2009. Some products are not available in all countries. Prices and product specifications are subject to change” it says in the email sent by Apple.

“Shopping event is available at the Apple Online Store and 0800 048 0408 only on 27 November from 00:01 to 23:59 GMT.

“Selected offers also available at UK Apple Retail Stores; not all sale products available in all stores. Sale prices are limited to stock on hand and while supplies last.”

So what’s this Black Friday thing about?

Black Friday falls on the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States and marks the start of the holiday shopping season, which means that this year it’s on Friday 27th November.

The meaning of the term Black Friday originated from Philadelphia decades ago and is a reference to heavy traffic that is around on that day. These days of course the traffic has increased even more and has now moved on to the virtual superhighway.

As Black Friday is the start of the shopping season, the term is also used to refer to the start of the period where retailers move from making a loss to a profit, in other words going from the red to the black.

Many people have the day off so US retailers traditionally offer bargains and discounts on this day to take advantage of the increase in the number of traffic or to be more precise, shoppers that are on the go.

So does this mean that UK shoppers will be able to bag a MacBook or an iPod or even an Apple TV for a fraction of the price?

Well if we take a look at last year there was a £60 reduction on a MacBook, £30 off an iMac and up to £11 off an iPod. No one’s going to complain about that are they?

If you want to bag a bargain and cash in, better not go to bed on Thursday night.
