The day we had all been anxiously waiting for is finally here. Apple iPhone 5 full features and specifications were unveiled by the company at Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco, California. Much had been rumored about the iPhone 5 and it is surprising to see that Apple’s new iPhone is in line with all of those rumors. Lets go ahead and take a detailed look in to the sixth generation iPhone.
The iPhone 5 happens to be 18% thinner and 20% lighter than iPhone 4S. The depth is 7.6mm and weight is 112 frams. The design itself is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. At first glace the iPhone 5 looks a lot like iPhone 4S as major design elements are shared between the two devices. However iPhone 5 has a new 4 inch display replacing the 3.5 inch one on iPhone 4S. The back cover is now made up of aluminium and glass, as opposed to just glass on iPhone 4S. This results in a two tone back cover, with glass present only on the top and bottom while aluminum sits smack in the middle.
As expected the iPhone 5 comes with A6 processor said to be over two times more powerful than its predecessor. Not only that, this new processor also provides superb graphics which makes gameplay all the more exciting on Apple’s latest smartphone. No exact word on the amount of RAM but I expect it to be at least 1GB. The speakers have been shrunk 20% and now support noise cancellation. Wideband audio is a new feature on iPhone 5 which picks up high and low frequencies previously unheard on calls made to the iPhone.
iPhone 5 boasts a widescreen 4 inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136 x 640, pixel density is at 326PP allowing for superb crystal clear graphics. Color saturation is 44% greater than that on iPhone 4S. Movies can be watched in widescreen HD as the iPhone 5 allows full HD video playback without letterboxing.
There’s an impressive 8 megapixel camera on the back. The camera has been greatly improved and it now comes with a 5 element lens protected by a sapphire crystal lens cover. There’s low light mode, precision lens alignment and a 720p camera on the front for video calling. The iPhone 4S also had an 8 megapixel camera but the one on iPhone 5 comes with far better improvements. Panoramic shots can be captured, in 28 megapixels resolution, directly from the Camera app itself.
The iPhone 5 has a smaller dock connector that was rumored quite a lot. In order to make this transition easier Apple is offering an adapter through which old 30 pin accessories can be connected to the new connector called Lightning. Apart from cases, covers and sleeves all previous iPhone accessories are compatible with the new iPhone.
Apple has finally introduced 4G LTE connectivity. Rumor has it that this feature may get Apple sued by Samsung. LTE will be available for selected mobile carriers around the world. There’s also HSPA+ which supports data speeds of up to 42Mbps. iPhone 5 on LTE would be capable of speeds up to 100Mbps. There’s dual band Wi-Fi, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, which effectively eliminate signal dropping.
The iPhone 5 supports nano SIM. You’ll need to get one from you mobile network as nano SIMs are different from micro SIMs which one could cut their regular SIM in to. That’s just about it for the iPhone 5. Apple will begin shipping in select countries on September 21. Previous prices have been retained meaning that you’ll have to part with $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB iPhone 5 with a two year contract with either Verizon, Sprint or AT&T.
