I don’t know what you’re going to make of this one as there isn’t a lot to go on really, but what we have here is a concept computer desk design called the “Apple Desk”.
The Apple Desk, from what we can understand from the picture, appears to be an all in one touch screen computer and desk complete with printing and disc loading capabilities.

What we don’t know is whether it is a fully functioning computer, in which case I kind of like it or more of a dedicated work station for particular tasks, like a photo studio for example.
I like to think it might be a fully functioning computer as we’re heading towards the all in one concept for everything else. What’s the point in having extra work stations when you can have it all in one place so to speak?
Imagine being able to manipulate all your files and drag them around your desk using nothing more than your finger tips, no mouse to operate and no buttons to press.
I suppose it would take a bit of getting used to but we are incredibly adaptable creatures. I know that not so long ago some people were reluctant to take on the mouse because it was just too different, preferring instead to use the keyboard keys, which seems unimaginable now.
I like the overall look of the desk, the design is simplistic and clean cut and decidedly futuristic. The slender form and curvy metallic grey stand just adds to the style.
We’ve gone from the overly complex to the ridiculously simple with this idea. For example, there is no clear definition between where the discs can be loaded and where the printed files are expelled.
I can’t quite work out whether the two white discs on the side are operator buttons or just part of the design, although the one on the front looks like an on off button, and that’s about it as far as buttons and switches go.
Ok, down to the important bit, I don’t know how practical this all in one computer desk would be. It seems to be all about looks. Personally I wouldn’t want to have a desk that I couldn’t put my coffee cup on but then again, maybe I’d adapt to that too.
Altogether it is an interesting design by Jerome Blanchard a 25 year old French award winning product designer who is passionate about Japan so if the Japanese like it, maybe that’s where we will see it first.
