52-inch 3D LCD Glasses-Gree TV Sets in Japan
Nissho Electronics, a Japanese company made up of former Phillips employees, has made available for purchase the first large 3D TV set which does not require special additional glasses. The TV set has a 52-inch diagonal, supports the 1080p format and is a unique TV set series in the whole world. Due its uniqueness, the $20, 820 is no longer so far-fetched.
The people who have tried the regular 3D TV sets and the additional glasses for enabling the 3D effect had to get used to lower image brightness, which is a specific limitation for the current 3D technology. On the other hand, the 3D TV sets manufactured by Nissho Electronics can display 3D images with a brightness ratio of 700cd/m which is enough even for bright rooms. Other specs include an image refresh rate of 60 Hz and a contrast ratio of 2000:1.
These 3D TV sets use the 2D+depth technology. The TV set’s processor uses regular 2D images and overlaps optimized images on them so as to create the depth effect. The technology can also use 3D native transmissions as well as 2D transmissions, the latter being automatically converted into 3D.
All we have to do is wait for the lenticular screen technology to become more generalized and lose its exclusive technology status which will hopefully lead to lower prices affordable for the public.
