Rockin’ Song Remakes
Lately I’ve been going through my music collection and looking for song remakes or covers as I like to call them. What is a cover song some might be asking?
Well a cover song is where a recent band takes a song from an older artist or group and remakes it with a newer sound or a few added tweaks but for the most part, the band will stay true to the original song.
Here are a few of what I consider to be exceptionally well done covers:
- Abracadabra - by Steve Miller Band - Covered by Sugar Ray
- Send Me An Angel - by Real Life - Covered by Thrice
- Smooth Criminal - by Michael Jackson - Covered by Alien Ant Farm
- Land Of Confusion - by Genesis - Covered by Disturbed
So now I call out to my readers who are music lovers.
What cover songs do you like? What songs from the past do you wish a newer band would cover?
BuddyLube
On Friday November 17, 2006 I was involved in a Skype conference call that ended up becoming a Skypecast which was pretty fun, especially when I had no idea what the content or subject matter was going to be.
In the conversation, a site that goes by the name BuddyLube came up:
Immediately going to the site, you’re greeted with a little jingle:
If you’re looking for a widget that’s cool, www dot buddy lube.
If you’re MySpace page needs some more attitude, www dot buddy lube.
You don’t have to know web 2.0
Just click on the eye and you’re ready to go!
It’s fast, it’s fresh, it’s easy to do, www dot buddy lube.
Buddy Lube comes with everything you see here each sold separately.
Buddy Lube! More eyeballs.
So what exactly is BuddyLube? I’m really not sure but I can’t get that damn jingle out of my head!
If you use BuddyLube or know more about it, please chime in.

Let’s Go to Prison - The Movie
This weekend I want to catch a movie and there are a few funny one’s coming out today.
One in particular that I want to see:
The movie is Rated R for language, sexual content, some violence and drug material.
You might not want to bring the kids to this movie but for most 20 somethings and adults, this looks like a really good comedy.
Taken from the Internet Movie Database, here’s the basic plot outline:
When a career criminal’s plan for revenge is thwarted by unlikely circumstances, he puts his intended victim’s son in his place by putting him in prison… and then joining him.
Need a little more to show this will be a fun comedy? How about checking out the movie trailer:
From watching the trailer, you’re sure to notice all the great one liners:
Lynard: I killed my old man.
Nelson Biederman IV: You didn’t kill him with kindness, did you?
Lynard: With a hammer.
Nelson Biederman IV: …Like the Beatles song.
A lot of people like seeing movies, including me on the weekends, so if you end up seeing this, let me know and let’s compare reviews.
Women and Eyebrows
Today I was out and about and noticed something really interesting while at a store.
The girl behind the cash register actually shaved off her eyebrows, then penciled them on… sort of like a circus clown.
I could tell she was able to grow eyebrows because there was some stubble… but why girls?
Why do this to yourself? It looks stupid.
It’s not even like she tried to make them look natural… huge freaking McDonald’s M’s for eyebrows… yikes!
I can understand a little plucking to separate the uni-brow but the Ronald McDonald draw in needs to go away.
So my question is… why do women do this? I’ve seen it a lot.
The Shining Spoof
The other day I posted a remake of the Office Space Movie Trailer and in that post I received a suggestion from one of my readers, Brandon.
Brandon Wood suggested that I check out the Shining spoof movie trailer because “they made it look like a heart-warming father-son story”:
Oh man, Brandon was so right. They made this horror movie with a lot of creepy and bloody goodness seem like the perfect family movie.
Don’t be fooled if you haven’t seen this movie. It’s spooky and does have a little bit of blood and death in it. You don’t want your 10 year-old kids watching it.
For a kid friendly family movie, I suggest Disney’s animated film The Emperor’s New Groove.
Thanks Brandon for the movie trailer suggestion.
