Rename Your Digital Photos In Bulk
I love taking digital photos and recently I went on a mini vacation to Portland, Oregon with a road trip to Seattle, Washington and of course I took a ton of pictures.
Now that I’m finally settled back at home, I’ve been going through the hundreds and I do mean hundreds of photos that I took while on my trip, which at some point will end up in a nice online gallery on my site.
As I’ve been going through all these wonderful pictures, I started realizing it was going to take forever to rename all of my pictures from pict0123.jpg to something a little more useful, so what did I do? I did a little research and found a really good solution that works under Windows XP.
- Open the folder and select View > Thumbnails.
- Click the last picture in the folder you want to rename, hold down the Shift key and click the first picture; this will select them all.
- Right-click the first photo and select Rename from the drop-down menu.
- Windows XP will highlight the filename for the first photo, enabling you to give it a descriptive name.
- After you type in the name, click the white space outside of the photo and watch as Windows applies the name with a sequential number to each picture in the folder.
There you go. Five easy steps to renaming hundreds if not thousands of digital photos in record time. This might not be new to you but it was a huge time saver for me.
Once upon a time
Once upon a time…
We were just plain people. But that was before we began having relationships with mechanical systems. Get involved with a machine and sooner or later you are reduced to a factor.
- Ellen Goodman, “The Human Factor,” The Washington Post, January 1987
This is such a true statement. In today’s day and age, most of us (including me) depend on our mechanical or electronic systems and devices. Examples would be our laptops, computers, cell phones, palm pilots, pagers, etc.
I wonder how many of my readers would go bonkers without access to any or all of the normal every day use of technology type items?
I know personally that I’d go a little bonkers without at least having my cell phone or Palm Pilot handy. I don’t even really remember phone numbers anymore since I’ve started using my Palm and cell phone thanks to speed dialing.
I use to have a hand written phone book that I would check for numbers and then have to hand dial them which also helped me remember frequently called numbers.
Granted, I still remember some phone numbers and I have a printed backup just incase but I think you get my point. Most modern middle class people can’t live today without some sort of technology device.
Here’s an idea. How about we all give up at least one technology item for 24-48 hours? If you’re game, post a comment and let me know what that item will be and then check back in 24-48 hours letting me and my other readers know how you did.
Ok, ready set go!
Circuit Bent NES Hack
I’m always interested in people making electronics do things they were never meant to do and I’ve always been curious about technology and how various bits and bytes work.
Today I found someone who sparked my interest by converting a Nintendo Game Console to be used as a visualizer for chiptunes based music performance.
This thing is so cool looking! To find out how this thing works, see it in action and for complete instructions on how to do this hack, visit the authors page located at Modified NES.
The Next James Bond 007?
So I hear that the movie studio’s are looking for the next person to play James Bond.
Friends and co-workers of mine have been known to call me a man of mystery, I really enjoy Bond movies and spy type action thrillers plus I’m also known to always have some sort of gadget on me.

What do you think? Do I have the look for the next James Bond?
Want To Exchange Links?
I’m looking to exchange links with a few people. I’m planning on adding a blogroll to my sidebar below my main navigation and all links will appear site wide.
If you’re interested in exchanging links with me, contact me and tell me a little about your website and be sure to include your website address.
As you can probably tell from my site content, I have an open mind, I’m really into technology and I have a pretty good sense of humor but links to questionable material will not be accepted. If unsure whether your site or link will be accepted please ask.
So why would you want to exchange links with me? Well for starters, I receive 1,000’s of unique visitors everyday from all over the world, 34.46% of which return on a regular basis.
Looking at my Google Analytics reports, as of this post 66.84% of my visitors are from the United States, 10.62% are from the United Kingdom and 8.29% are from the Netherlands. I do get visitors from Canada, Sweden and a few other places as well. If you’d like more details, just ask.
