100 MB Broadband Connection Planned For The UK

broadband 100 MB Broadband Connection Planned For The UKEvery home and business in the country looks set to be transformed forever as a super fast broadband connection capable of transmitting information at a massive 100 megabits per second is on the cards for the UK. Let’s just put this into perspective for a moment and compare it with the current connections which are only around 8 megabits per second. Wow! Anyone can see that’s one heck of a difference.

What this means is that people will be able to download entire albums in a matter of seconds, watch high definition TV on our PCs, make video calls and surf the Net all at the same time. Businesses will benefit from better data storage and by being able to conduct two way video calls, as well as providing more opportunities for their staff to work from home. It doesn’t stop there either, the new connection will allow for ‘telemedicine’ or consultations with medical professionals by video and better services for disabled people or anyone who is housebound. In fact the list goes on an on.

Ofcom, the office of communications and UK regulator for broadcasting and telecommunications have just released their action plan which they say will encourage competition and investment. The service will be delivered through fibre optic cables connecting to every home and business in the country. It’s not all good news of course as this means hundreds of telephone poles would have to be installed and miles and miles of roads dug up so that the cables can be laid.

There’s no such thing as a free breakfast and you’re going to have to pay subscription fees for it and just how much anyone’s guess as Ofcom have said that companies involved can set their own fees. We may not have any choice in the matter either because even though it looks like the new super fast broadband will exist alongside  current telephone and broadband connections to begin with, they are likely to be cut off eventually possibly even within a couple of years, forcing everyone to switch over permanently.

But hey, this is good news isn’t it? One charge for all broadband and telephone services, no more intermittent and dodgy broadband connections or crashes, no more fighting for bandwidth, just a super fast connection with no hassles. Cool!

  1. This is really good news. I for one won’t mind paying extra for speeds that fast! Can’t wait.
